Winged liner, also known as the cat eye, has been seen in so many different variations for decades, from striking dramatic bold lines to a softer more subdued wing. This summer’s take on the cat eye is the Kitten Wing – a winged liner done in a flirty, fresh, sophisticated and a safe everyday look that’s wearable for all occasions. Here are this summer’s beauty buys that make achieving the Kitten Wing look simple.
The Beauty Buy ::
Inglot Cosmetics Gel Liner ($12) – Hands down one of the best gel liners on the market, highly pigmented, creamy, long lasting, and dries in 60 seconds to a water proof finish. You need this gel liner!! Quick tip – make sure you put the cap tightly back on or product will dry out after a few uses.
MAC #210 Precise Eye Liner Brush ($19) – This fine-tipped liner brush has the firmness and shape of an ultra thin pen, giving you lots of control when you apply liner. I have about 6 of these brushes in my brush belt at all times.
Sonia Kashuk Bent Eyeliner ($6) – This finely, pointed, slanted eyeliner brush has a bent tip, allowing you to create a precise line by holding the slanted brush horizontally and following the natural curve of your eyelash line. It allows anyone to create the perfect kitten wing. I recommend this brush for all beginners.
Muji mini cotton swabs ($4) – Think of these as your mini magic eraser wands. These cotton swabs are genius and ideal for fixing the tiniest mistake, so thin you can wipe the tiniest smug and not interfere with any other makeup.
MAC Cosmetics Pro Eye Makeup Remover ($20) – This eye makeup remover is great for fixing mistakes during application. No oily messes means quick efficient touch-ups. As soon as it’s used, more makeup can be put on immediately. It’s also a great makeup remover for those who wear contact lenses. I don’t recommend this product though to remove makeup every night – just for quick fixes.
Application & Technique::
First, take the eyeliner brush and lightly run it through the gel eyeliner. Then use your opposite hand (not being used to apply the liner) to pull your eyelid slightly flat. The goal is to eliminate any chance of creasing along the lash line. Slightly tilt your head back and apply liner as close as you can to the eyelash line. Remember to always start from the inside of the eye and stroke brush outward. When you get to the end of the lash line, slightly stroke the brush upward. Remember it’s ok to mess up, knowing that you can clean up any mistakes with your magic wand (cotton swabs & Makeup remover) which takes all the stress away.
The most important tip is don’t forget to channel your inner feline. Do a soft winged liner to a clean face for a fresh and sophisticated flirty look that isn’t over the top.
Now, go get them tiger.
